Beatrice A. Townsend, PhD., M.S., B.S.

 
   
   

Ms.  Beatrice “DeeDee” Townsend enlisted in the Air Force immediately after graduating mid-term from high school at the age of 17.    She  spent nine years with the Air Force which became a powerful influence in her life.   She was stationed for six years at the Wilford Hall Medical Center, a 1500 bed capacity hospital at Lackland Air Force Base (LAFB) in Texas.  

At LAFB, Ms. Townsend assisted the top specialty officers in ophthalmology and was appointed team leader for Ocular Plastics, Pediatrics and Neuro-Ophthalmology.   She also assisted in the Glaucoma, Retina, and Cornea clinics.    Ms. Townsend was trained on a variety of specialized ophthalmic and surgical instruments that were used in the assessment and treatment of eye diseases.   

While stationed at LAFB, Ms. Townsend became a Certified Ophthalmology Assistant, a Certified Optician by the Certified Opticians Association of Texas , and a CPR Instructor Trainer for the American Heart Association.   As a result of her hard work and dedication, she was appointed to non-commissioned officer status.

In 1991, Ms. Townsend was selected for her allegiance and commitment to duty and was among the military personnel sent to Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf.  At Desert Storm, she helped established a contingency hospital for the incoming wounded in the war.    Upon her return, she was assigned to the Vanderberg Air Force Base in California as Manager of the Ophthalmology and Optometry Clinic under the supervision of the Chief of Opthalmology.  She also served an important role as the Clinic Patient Advocate.   In 1994, she earned a commendation medal for her commitment to improve the effectiveness and quality of care within the vision care clinic.  In 1995, influenced considerably by a plethora of distinguished doctors to continue her studies in medicine, she ended her military assignment and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.

Ms. Townsend pursued a degree in biology while working full time with a renowned corneal specialist. During her spare time, she also volunteered to assist in the AIDS ward of the Hollywood Community Hospital in Los Angeles.   In 1999, a general surgeon piqued Ms. Townsend’s interest in the field of Eastern Medicine. The idea of fusing her knowledge of western medicine with the unknown eastern inspired her to pursue a career in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Ms. Townsend completed her doctorate degree in Oriental Medicine.    She also holds a Masters of Science degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and a Bachelor of Science degree in Holistic Science.   Ms. Townsend is also pursuing her studies in Nursing.  

Ms. Townsend is primarily involved in the Practice Management area of J. Madison-Bentley in addition to handling the overall operations of the firm.
